Resurrecting the Legacy

We have inherited invaluable cultural wealth from our ancestors, including the traditional art of weaving which has been passed down from generation to generation. Ulos is a symbol of honor, status and identity for the Batak people. However, as time goes by, the values contained in ulos cloth are increasingly being eroded by modernization and the flow of globalization.

Ulos revitalization is not just about maintaining traditional fabric, but also reviving the values contained in it. This is an opportunity to reintroduce our cultural heritage to the world, build pride in communities in their cultural roots, and pay tribute to our ancestors who have preserved and passed on this wealth.

Dame Ulos has revitalized old ulos as an effort to strengthen Batak identity which has begun to fade. Dame Ulos reproduces the old Ulos motif which is now undergoing modern modifications, reproducing the extinct ulos motif and preserving the original traditional Batak weaving technique without a touch of modernization. In this way, the values contained in Ulos are conveyed well with correct understanding so that they can be used in everyday life on a strong basis without mistakes.
